Offseason Updates

Hello there,
Thanks for reading this blog post. The Centennial 38 is set to return Wednesday, February 1st. We are excited to talk about the Rapids. However, I figured I’d give some quick thoughts and opinions in the recent Rapids newsphere. I will start first by going to the Rapids subreddit and sorting out by date and relevancy and hopefully give you my best thoughts on all of it.

Anyway, here goes.

Just gonna get it out of the way now because… yikes. Anthony Hudson? Appointed USMNT coach for January? It’s insane to think how the man has progressively failed up to better positions. Good lord US Soccer has themselves an absolute go getter in this guy.

As an El Tri fan, I’d rather see us knocked out again and again before I let this guy anywhere close to any team I support.

Say what you will about the deal. This is so big for fans. All season ticket holders receive the Season Pass for free. I’m stoked I no longer have to go to dodgy streaming sites and can just tune in to see the Rapids. Most of us already know about this, so why bring it up? Well, Marcelo Balboa was one of the initial broadcasters announced for this so I’m really hoping he can stay to be the Rapids exclusive guy. I will miss the duo of him and Richard Fleming very dearly, but Marcelo has charm and that is enough to carry whatever Apple commentator is who’s got very big shoes to fill.

This one is just as crazy as Anthony Hudson. Now, when I saw this my ears perked up a lot. This would have been a move I could see a team like LA Galaxy, LAFC, or Chicago making. But the Colorado Rapids? I was intrigued…until it was reported to be false. Crazy what if scenario though. He’s already scored a goal in Mile High City

This one also piqued my interest until I found out all games were to be hosted here. Boooo, that’s a bummer. Would have loved to have seen the logistics into planning that Away day. Anyways, another away day I’ll probably pivot to is Nashville. I met some really cool Nashville supporters at the Independent Supporters Council. They’ve formally invited me so preparations are in place to go to Nashville for some Leagues Cup action. Hopefully I can follow through on the plans.

So the Rapids just suddenly decided to have a spending spree? As always, it’s a wait and see for a lot of these. The only confirmed one is midfielder Conner Ronan, an Irish youth who’s supposed to have some potential going forward. Another one that looks close to done is the signing of Brondby center back Maxso. What I will say about Brondby is they’re a better side than what they’ve been this season. They’re currently leaking a lot of goals. Before that? Not so much, but I hope Maxso comes with a new invigorated energy and not the one he’s currently carrying around at Brondby. Pentz and Gersbach are still rumors at the moment. Maybe they’ll be announced before the first podcast on Wednesday.

The fine folks over at Burgundy Wave have had the rugged pulled from underneath them. Burgundy Wave and many other SBNation MLS sites received the news that Vox, the major company that owns SBNation, will not be supporting MLS and NHL sites. This is a big blow to Major League Soccer and Vox single handedly set us back 5 years atleast. Hopefully those who are currently at Burgundy Wave find a platform that best utilizes and compensates them for their writing.

And that’s about it. We will talk more in depth about a lot of these on the podcast on February 1st. For now, we’ll eagerly await any Rapids and Centennial 38 updates.
